battle-city
Battle City is a multi-directional shooter video game for the Family Computer, released by Namco in 1985. Players control a tank with the objective of destroying enemy tanks while protecting their base, depicted as a bird or eagle. Enemy tanks enter from the top of the screen, and players must eliminate all 20 enemy tanks in a level. The game ends if the base is destroyed or the player loses all lives. Battle City features 35 stages with various terrains and obstacles, like destructible brick walls, indestructible steel walls unless powered up, and elements like bushes and water. It also includes power-ups to enhance gameplay.

Game History
Battle City is a successor to Namco's 1980 Tank Battalion and was followed by the 1991 Tank Force. It also appeared in different formats, including an arcade version for the Nintendo VS. System and as part of the Japanese version of Star Fox Assault. The game was noted for its simultaneous two-player gameplay and the innovative custom level editor, albeit with unsavable custom levels. The Game Boy version added a radar feature due to its smaller screen size.
